Lienkie was born in Pretoria and raised in the Western Transvaal. She obtained a BA Fine Arts degree at the University of Pretoria in 1971. Her bird studies on rice paper, her medium of choice, became so popular that she focussed mainly on this. Finally her signature genre became children at play and rustic, romanticised farm scenes. This includes artworks of boys kicking ball or flying a kite, girls dressing up in oversized posh frocks, and siblings frolicking in the waves. Lienkie uses her art as escapism and to revisit the nostalgia of childhood. “My work is an effort to capture a little beauty that got lost and forgotten in this fast life and bring it back” she says.
